Continued Amateur Photography
We were so emboldened by the quality of puppy group shots that we're trying our hand at portraits. Previously, we were taking impromptu pictures and the puppies never quite cooperated.
So we bought some lighting and a better camera. Please don't think these are the true pictures as these shots were taken indoors with a cellphone camera. But the better pictures will be coming soon. Stay tuned.
Oh, by the way, this is Purple.

Distraction
Did you ever remember a time where you were happily playing and then you notice someone watching you and then you become totally distracted?

Growing = Going into the Awkward Stage
Similar to humans, the puppies are moving from the cute (they're still cute) to an awkward looking stage. This is to say that in human terms, it's the adolescent times where the proportions are not uniform.
We are steeling ourselves for the puppies. As a sign of transitioning, we are noticing that the ears are moving from a folded state to the vertical state. Also, their barks are not as quiet and sharp but a bit louder and more urgent sounding. It's sort of like teen boys' voice changing. Total awkwardness is not there yet but it's coming.

Too Much Togetherness?
We thought we'd experiment and turn the tables around on the bigger dogs. Rather than have the puppies come out and interact with Ming and Audrey, we wanted to see what would happen if it were the other way around.
The first few moments were somewhat strange as the puppies would follow them around. Ming had been in there nursing before and she was fine with it. As the puppies would follow her to nurse, she was explicitly avoiding them (trying to wean them you know). They also saw a big flash of white and followed Audrey. Needless to say Audrey felt confused as she was sniffed at. She too jumped around. But the pen was also intriguing because she also remembered the hippo from her younger days.
However as time passed, things were getting calmer. As there were some balls which Audrey and Ming honed in on, the bigger dogs started chewing on them and the puppies were fascinated. They also wanted a piece of the action.
Eventually Ming got bored but Audrey was having a grand time with her half-siblings. No more running around the pen but Audrey being the center of attention and all the puppies around her and nudging at her. They enjoyed having the big sister around.

An Attempt at a Staged Photoshoot -4 (Last One)
Now that we're finished with going off to side tangents, we conclude our staged shoots with outdoor pictures. Needless to say when we shot this, being outdoors was rather foreign to our pups. It was a handful to making them stay but one thing they haven't discovered yet was to overcome height. As you can see from these shots, they are about one step above the grass and the height was sufficient that they didn't jump and take off all over the place.

Piper
On the theme of pups from Ming's first litter, we received a picture of Piper (yellow). Piper looks great and we see the family resemblance.
At the grooming seminar, a few of us had the pleasure of seeing Sophie (pink/green) again. It was a wonderful time to see her. Sadly, in the excitement, and well, ahem, forgetfulness, of one of our members, a picture was not snapped. Suffice it to say, Sophie looked very pretty and ready for the show ring! She is also practicing for rally.

Tearing Into the Plush Toys
In the first litter we saw the some instinctive animal behavior where the puppies attacked the stuffed hippo. Well, our new batch of puppies is no different. The plush toy hippo is still subject of some 'wild kingdom; like behavior but so is the newest addition, a stuffed lion (it also serves as their pillow/chin rest at night). To set this up, the plush toys were freshly clean and came from the dryer.
